Among the many top artists he has played with include Stevie Wonder, Sérgio Mendes, Sarah Vaughan, Hermeto Pascoal, Nancy Wilson, Egberto Gismonti, Carlos Santana, Milton Nascimento, Ella Fitzgerald, Tom Jobim, and Ney Matogrosso. He also writes soundtracks for cinema and TV, both in Brazil and abroad. Montarroyos was the arranger for the Brazilian music of the #Moon Over Parador film.
